The afternoon classes passed more quickly than Y/N expected.
By the time her last lecture ended, she had already memorized the route to two buildings, gotten lost once, and learned that Jungkook had absolutely no idea how to whisper.
She stepped out of the classroom and checked her phone.
There was a message from Yoongi.
Yoongi Oppa: How was the rest of your day?
Y/N smiled and typed back.
Y/N: Good. I survived.
A reply came almost immediately.
Yoongi Oppa: Proud of you.
Y/N smiled at the screen.
She put her phone away and looked around the hallway.
She had expected to feel lonely again once classes ended.
Instead, she spotted a familiar face.
Jimin was standing near the stairs.
Jimin: "Y/N!"
Y/N looked up.
Y/N: "Jimin?"
Jimin walked toward her.
Jimin: "You're done?"
Y/N nodded.
Y/N: "Yeah."
Jimin: "Where are Taehyung and Jungkook?"
Jimin: "Jungkook went to the library."
Y/N raised an eyebrow.
Y/N: "Jungkook? Library?"
Jimin laughed.
Jimin: "I know. I was surprised too."
Y/N: "What happened?"
Jimin: "He forgot about an assignment."
Y/N laughed.
Y/N: "That sounds more believable."
Jimin smiled.
Jimin: "Taehyung went with him."
Y/N: "Oh."
Jimin looked at her.
Jimin: "Do you have somewhere to be?"
Y/N shook her head.
Y/N: "Not really."
Jimin: "Then come with me."
Y/N: "Where?"
Jimin: "The student center."
Y/N hesitated.
Y/N: "Why?"
Jimin: "Because I haven't eaten anything since lunch."
Y/N: "You just ate."
Jimin: "That was hours ago."
Y/N looked at the time.
It had barely been two hours.
Y/N: "You're hungry already?"
Jimin: "Very."
Y/N laughed.
Y/N: "Fine."
They walked toward the student center together.
The campus looked different in the afternoon.
The morning rush had disappeared, replaced by smaller groups of students sitting outside and talking.
Y/N looked around.
Y/N: "It's actually really nice here."
Jimin: "You'll get used to it."
Y/N: "Everyone keeps saying that."
Jimin: "Because it's true."
They reached the student center and found an empty table.
Jimin sat down.
Y/N sat across from him.
Jimin: "So..."
Y/N: "So?"
Jimin: "What do you think of us?"
Y/N stared at him.
Y/N: "You mean you, Taehyung and Jungkook?"
Jimin nodded.
Y/N thought for a moment.
Y/N: "You're all loud."
Jimin laughed.
Jimin: "That's your first impression?"
Y/N: "Accurate, though."
Jimin: "And?"
Y/N smiled.
Y/N: "You're nice."
Jimin: "Only nice?"
Y/N: "You're also surprisingly easy to talk to."
Jimin smiled.
Jimin: "I'll accept that."
Y/N looked down at the table.
Y/N: "I was actually worried this morning."
Jimin: "About college?"
Y/N nodded.
Y/N: "I thought I'd spend the whole day alone."
Jimin: "You won't."
Y/N looked at him.
Jimin: "Not anymore."
Before Y/N could answer, someone dropped into the chair beside Jimin.
Jungkook: "Did I miss something?"
Y/N smiled.
Y/N: "You came from the library?"
Jungkook nodded proudly.
Jungkook: "Yes."
Jimin looked at him.
Jimin: "Did you actually study?"
Jungkook paused.
Jungkook: "That's a complicated question."
Y/N laughed.
Jimin: "So no."
Jungkook: "I studied emotionally."
Y/N: "What does that even mean?"
Jungkook: "I sat there and thought about studying."
Jimin shook his head.
Jimin: "Hopeless."
Another voice came from behind them.
Taehyung: "He's been like this for years."
Y/N turned.
Taehyung was standing there with two books in his hands.
Y/N: "Did you study?"
Taehyung: "A little."
Jungkook: "Traitor."
Taehyung sat beside him.
Taehyung: "Someone had to."
Y/N smiled.
For some reason, seeing all three of them together felt familiar already.
She had only known them for one day.
Yet she didn't feel like an outsider anymore.
Jungkook suddenly looked at her.
Jungkook: "Y/N."
Y/N: "Hmm?"
Jungkook: "Do you have any clubs you're interested in?"
Y/N thought.
Y/N: "Maybe the art club."
Taehyung looked at her.
Taehyung: "You draw?"
Y/N nodded.
Y/N: "Sometimes."
Jimin: "Sometimes?"
Y/N: "I like drawing."
Jungkook: "Then you should join."
Y/N: "Maybe."
Taehyung: "Why maybe?"
Y/N: "Because I don't know anyone there."
Jungkook: "You know us."
Y/N looked at him.
Jungkook: "Not in the art club."
Jungkook: "But still."
Y/N smiled.
Taehyung: "You should try it."
Y/N: "You really think so?"
Taehyung nodded.
Taehyung: "Yeah."
Y/N looked at him for a second before nodding.
Y/N: "Okay."
Jimin smiled.
Jimin: "See? First day and you're already making plans."
Y/N: "Maybe college won't be so bad."
Jungkook: "Told you."
Y/N: "You told me nothing."
Jungkook: "Details."
They all laughed.
A little later, Y/N's phone buzzed again.
She checked the screen.
Yoongi Oppa.
She answered.
Y/N: "Oppa?"
Yoongi: "Are you coming home soon?"
Y/N: "Probably."
Yoongi: "Probably?"
Y/N glanced at the three boys.
Y/N: "I'm still with my friends."
Yoongi: "The same three?"
Y/N: "Yes."
There was a pause.
Yoongi: "Good."
Y/N: "Why do you sound relieved?"
Yoongi: "Because at least I know you're not wandering around campus alone."
Y/N rolled her eyes.
Y/N: "I wasn't wandering."
Jungkook whispered loudly.
Jungkook: "She was."
Y/N immediately covered the phone.
Y/N: "Jungkook!"
Jungkook laughed.
Yoongi clearly heard him again.
Yoongi: "Is that Jungkook?"
Y/N sighed.
Y/N: "Yes."
Yoongi: "Put him on."
Y/N looked at Jungkook.
Y/N: "My brother wants to talk to you."
Jungkook's eyes widened.
Jungkook: "Me?"
Y/N handed him the phone.
Jungkook: "Hello, hyung."
Yoongi: "You're taking care of my sister?"
Jungkook looked at Y/N.
Jungkook: "Of course."
Taehyung quietly laughed.
Jimin covered his mouth to hide his smile.
Jungkook: "She's perfectly safe."
Yoongi: "Good."
Jungkook: "She's also less lost now."
Y/N: "Jungkook!"
Everyone laughed.
Jungkook handed the phone back.
Y/N: "Oppa, I'll be home soon."
Yoongi: "Okay. Don't stay too late."
Y/N: "I won't."
She ended the call.
Taehyung looked at her.
Taehyung: "Your brother really trusts us."
Y/N smiled.
Y/N: "He trusts you because he knows you."
Taehyung nodded.
Taehyung: "Then we'll make sure he doesn't regret it."
Y/N looked at him.
For a brief moment, she didn't know what to say.
So she simply smiled.
Y/N: "Thanks."
Taehyung smiled back.
Nothing about the moment was unusual.
It was just a promise between new friends.
At least, that's what Y/N told herself.
She had no idea that the people sitting around that table would slowly become some of the most important people in her life.
And she certainly didn't know that one day, the simple friendship beginning on her first day of college would become much more complicated than any of them expected.
